A Virtual Session to Help Ukrainians Feel Empowered

Dr. Julia Ivy, together with invited experts, developed a series of virtual sessions for professionals who are ready to enter a new professional market – physically moving to a new country or region or virtually positioning themselves as global player. Due to all the turbulence in Eastern Europe in 2022, the contents of the sessions were specifically tailored to people from Ukraine, Belarus, and Russia who had to escape the horror of the war and authoritarian regimes.

I wish I knew what I know now back then when I was entering a new market.”

Last October 8, 2022, Dr.

The event comprised FIVE sessions, leading a newcomer through the questions and choices they make when deciding whether to enter a new professional market:

  • What are my options as an educated international newcomer? Session 1 “WE: We are newcomers..” – by Dr. Julia Ivy
  • How can I enter a professional market at my level? Session 2 “MARKET ENTRY: Your market entry options & available support.” – by Zi Dvoskina, MS.
  • What should I focus on in crafting my employability for that market? Session 3 “EMPLOYABILITY: Defining your focus & strategy for employability.” – by Dr. Julia Ivy
  • How can I integrate into a new environment – culturally and personally? Session 4 “NTEGRATION: Cultural agility in a new environment.” – by Dr. Marina Markot
  • What’s next? Session 5 “ACTION: Connecting your uniqueness with an targeted employer.” – by Dr. Julia Ivy

Sessions 4 and 5 were especially interactive and the discussions kept going even after the event officially finished.

During session #4, Dr. Marina Markot introduced myGiide assessment for cultural agility. Each participant completed the assessment and received a detailed individual report, wherein they learned a lot about themselves and discovered surprising facts about their cultural values and whether they match with the country they chose as their new market.

During session #5, participants learned how to outreach the employer of your dream when you are a newbie in the new professional market. Dr. Julia Ivy gave step-by-step guidance, provided feedback in real-time, and helped polish the message to perfection.

By the end of the intensive, participants felt empowered and created a clear personal strategy with steps to follow. They also gained access to a handful of additional materials to be fully equipped to present themselves in the new market.
